Looking for the ideal audio installation for a commercial property or public building? Then a 100V line speaker system might be exactly what you need. From large distances to multi-room set-ups, surface-mountable 100V speakers can cover it all.
100V Wall-and-Ceiling-Mount Speakers
Compared to 100V installation speakers, 100V surface-mount speakers have bigger, more pronounced housings which makes them more visible and less low-profile. In theory, this also means that non-installation speakers generally boast higher audio quality since there's more room for bigger and better components. There are also 100V column speakers, which are typically set up in large rooms.
Power Attenuation
100V speakers come equipped with a transformer which means you can tweak the power capacity (e.g. from 32W to 16W, 8W or 4W), the benefit of which is that you can easily connect multiple speakers to a single 100V amplifier. Needless to say, the power capacity dialled in for any system also determines the maximum volume output.
Calculating the Power Capacity for a 100V System
Calculating the power requirements for a 100V system is simpler than for a standard 4/8-Ohm speaker system. In practice, a 100W amplifier can easily be connected to twenty 4W 100V speakers for a total power rating of 80W. The reason we're leaving some headroom is because it's recommended to avoid continuously running an amplifier at 100% capacity.
