Turn Your Living Room into a Dance Floor or Karaoke Battle-Ground!

If you're running out of ways to make it through the seemingly endless lock-down we're all currently in, here's a fun little idea: why not turn your living room into a dance floor, silent disco or karaoke battle-ground?!

The First Step: Lighting

To get the right vibes going, you're going to need a couple of lighting effects, moving heads or simply a few colourful spotlights. As you'll notice, it's not even all that expensive to get disco-style light beams bouncing off the walls in your living room, so you could even opt for a complete light effect kit. Once you get that disco vibe going, you might even want to add a small smoke machine to boost the atmosphere even further, in which case you'll want to make sure there's proper ventilation and that any smoke detectors are far enough away so that they don't get triggered.

Battle It Out or Set Up a Silent Disco

After you've set yourself up with some lights, it's time to challenge your family members or house mates to a karaoke battle or invite them to your private silent disco and kit them out with special Silent Disco headphones. Sing away the lock-down blues with the help of a fully-fledged karaoke machine or pick out the right speakers and microphones yourself. Just keep in mind that noise levels can quickly get out of hand during intense karaoke nights, and if you've already annoyed the neighbours enough trying to learn that new ukulele you picked up, a few pairs of headphones might be a better idea than hooking up an actual speaker system.

Putting on a Show

Now that you're set up with the sound and lighting, you need to think about how you're going to use your gear to put on a great show. Next to automatic programmes, almost all of our lighting fixtures feature a sound-controlled mode in which they respond or move to the beat of the music, while most of our spotlights, moving heads and light effects are also DMX-ready and can be controlled using a DMX controller. So, whether you're an aspiring light-jockey or not, the party-preparations certainly won't prove overly fussy.

No Drilling Required

Don't worry about your parents or the landlord either, turning your living room into a party room doesn't necessarily demand that you drill a bunch of holes in the walls. Using a lighting stand, a T-bar and a couple of securing clamps, your entire set-up can be effortlessly mounted before you position the lights as needed. Tip: Safety should always come first, so make sure all of the equipment is fully secured to prevent accidents.
