Toslink cables are the standard for optical audio and have been developed by Toshiba (which explains the 'Tos' in the name). Many DVD, CD and Minidisc players, but also game computers, PCs and DAT recorders provide the option to transfer the sound digitally to a suitable amplifier by means of a Toslink connector.
