Sterling by Music Man and Darkglass Electronics join forces once again to bring you now a progressive 5-string bass in the form of the DarkRay 5. As with the 4-string version, this 5-string solidbody features that special 2-band active preamp from Finnish Darkglass. Here you can use the 3-way switch to choose between the sound of just the preamp (clean), a hairy fuzz (omega) or a solid distortion (alpha). You can see which mode is on by the colour of the clear LED button between the controls.

DarkRay 5: no effects pedals needed for distinctive bass tones

This means that with this active electric 5-string, you don't need effects pedals to be as punchy and diverse as you like. You control the amount of distortion with the gain and create your own ideal mix of this and the clean sound with the blend. Then use the treble and bass knobs to determine how much high and low you want to hear in your amplified overall sound.
