They hardly come any more classic than this Sunburst Strat with maple neck. The Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS has a modern touch though as it features a humbucker pickup in the bridge position. The humbucker has a warm, fat sound that is ideal for jazzy cleans and hard rock distortions, but if it's those clear and sparkling Strat sounds you want, then these are provided by the two tight single-coil pickups in the neck and middle position. The HSS 'Fat' Stratocaster is a versatile tone machine with an old-school vintage look.

Standard Stratocaster HSS: cut from the right stuff

The body of this guitar is made of Alder, a type of wood that Fender has used since the first Stratocaster came out of their factory in 1954. Alder combines a comfortable light weight with excellent tonal properties that have a perfect balance between bass, mids and trebles. The recesses for the electronics are completely shielded to prevent unwanted noise and a 50Hz hum. The yellow-tinted maple neck has 21 medium jumbo frets and a 9.5-inch radius to allow effortless , trouble-free bends along the entire fretboard.

Overall properties of the HSS Fat Strat

The HSS Strat has a tremolo bridge that can be tilted by pressing the arm to alter the pitch, which is perfect for creating subtle vibrato effects. Like most Strats, this model has a master volume and two tone control knobs for filtering out high frequencies. A five-position pickup switch allows you to choose between the different sounds of the three pickups and two pickup combinations. Lastly, the headstock brandishes a '70s-style vintage Fender logo and high-quality self-lubricating machine heads for a stable tuning.
