General
One of the headliners of the Modern Collection, the Gibson SG Modern takes iconic Gibson sound and gracefully smashes it together with modern playability. The near-wafer-thin mahogany body has been garnished with a AA-figured maple top, so each unique slice makes a genuinely unique guitar, before it's all sealed up in a tasty nitrocellulose lacquer. This new-school SG comes complete with a hardshell case and accessory kit.
The Modern Collection SG Modern: Addictive Playing Comfort
The SG has always carried a solid reputation for its fast-feeling neck, and Gibson have pushed that feeling even further by giving the dark-ebony fretboard of the SG Modern a compound radius that comfortably flattens as you move closer to the body. Coupled with the asymmetrical Slim Taper neck profile, grabbing chords and notes feels like buttering hot and fresh bread - or thereabouts - while the classic double-cut body eases access to every last one of the 24 medium jumbo frets.
Wide-Ranging Gibson Sound
The amplified sound of the SG Modern has been placed in the capable hands of a pair of BurstBucker Pro pickups. These Alnico-V-based passive humbuckers deliver forceful output and potent sound. And, since this model is a member of the Modern Collection, it comes fitted with two, coil-tapping push/pull volume pots, so besides the vintage and familiar, you can even pull brilliantly raw, P90-style tone out of this SG. This American-made guitar manages to crash the classic head-on into the contemporary and make it sound flawless.

- Le look est superbe, la table en érable flammée (qui fait la moitié de l’épaisseur du corps) à un superbe rendu dans ce coloris et les incrustations en nacre véritable de la touche en ébène en jettent un max.
- Les 24 frettes ont pour effet d’avoir un « neck tenon » plus long que sur la version standard. Ça améliore le sustain de la guitare.
- Le poids de la table en érable permet d’avoir un meilleur équilibre de la guitare avec une sangle (comparé à une SG standard)
- Le coil tap des micros apporte plus de polyvalence sans différence de niveau sonore comme c’est le cas avec des coil splits.
- Le câblage est manuel: pas de circuit imprimé et de Quick Connect.
- Les frettes couvrent le binding (il n’y a pas de fret edge binding): personnellement je trouve ça plus confortable (pas de risque de sortir du manche ou de coincer la corde de mi aiguë entre le bord de frette et le binding).
Cette guitare sera à l’aise dans beaucoup de styles de musique.
L’étui noir est de belle qualité même si j’aurais préféré avoir la version marron.
C’est vraiment une belle guitare entre Les Paul et SG. Une très belle réussite de Gibson qui ne plaira sans doute pas aux puristes pour qui une SG doit avoir 22 frettes, un coloris cherry et un pickguard. Pour tous les autres, c’est une guitare qui trouvera sa place dans leur collection.

Le son Gibson rien à redire.
Mais livrée avec un des boutons de volume en mille morceaux et pas de retour du SAV depuis 2 jours malgré mon email avec photo.
