General

After the successful Thunderbolt version of the Focusrite Clarett audio interface, the brand proudly present the 2Pre USB version, which is more accessible for Windows users. What's more, it's equipped with a USB-C interface and a bandwidth that's even higher than its Thunderbolt predecessor. The 2Pre is equipped with two analogue, combined XLR/jack inputs and, like the Thunderbolt version, 4 line outputs, MIDI I/O and an ADAT output. This means that when you connect the 2Pre to an external preamp, you'll have up to ten inputs at your disposal. Finally, the 2Pre USB Clarett also features Air-enabled preamps, which recreate the sound of an acclaimed ISA preamp when activated and 24-bit/192 kHz AD/DA conversion for crystal-clear recordings.

I am using the Clarett 2Pre with Cubase & Studio One on Laptop as well as Logic Pro on Mac. Compatibility is outstanding, lag is close to zero, and the quality is breathtaking. The warmth of the headroom from the pre is especially impressive during audio recordings. The noise from the unit is the lowest I have ever come across (including Scarlett 8, Motu M4 and Air or the pre sonuses across the range) and clipping protection is excellent. No downside I have found so far.

After many years using a Scarlett 2i2 1st gen, this is a huge step up.
Sound wise: Great preamps, low noise, lots of dynamic range and a lower latency.
Installation was super easy and it's great that it can be USB powered with USB-C (less cables and power supply) and all buttons feel solid and quality.

Ottima interfaccia audio su protocollo USB. Si riescono a raggiongere latenze bassissime nell'ordine dei 2 - 3 ms. La qualità della conversione A/D e D/A è paragonabile a prodotti di fascia di prezzo di gran lunga più elevato. Funziona senza necessità di alimentazione esterna se collegata ad una porta USB 3.0 di tipo C. Consigliata a chi non ha necessità di molti ingressi, sebbene è dotata di ingresso ottico ADAT per aggiungere ulteriori 8 canali in ingresso. Io la uso come interfaccia audio sul computer portatile per suonare live dei VST instrument e, contestualmente, processare il segnale del chitarrista con amp/cabinet simuulator ed altri effetti software: va benissimo!!!!

Focusrite Unveils Clarett USB Audio Interfaces

Not too long ago, Focusrite launched the successful Clarett series of excellent audio interfaces with Thunderbolt connection. Now, they are unveiling the Clarett USB, which is essentially the same concept but suitable for Mac and PC with a minimum of one USB2.0 port. You can choose between three models, the Clarett 2Pre USB, the Clarett 4Pre USB and the Clarett 8Pre USB.
