NAMM 2016: Denon DJ Shows Off SM50 DJ Monitors
Thursday, 21 January 2016
Denon DJ is branching out, and besides DJ controllers, a turntable and headphones, they're now making speakers too! Hence the versatile SM50 monitors. They were primarily designed as DJ monitors, but they're also great for recreational use.
The SM50 monitors feature 5.25" woofers and a silk dome tweeter, in combination with an amplifier module per speaker that provides plenty of power. The wide 50 - 20,000 Hz frequency range allows it to amplify pretty much any tones the human ear can hear, and the speaker reproduces them faithfully. Each speaker has a 90W bi-amp amplifier module to drive the components with the right frequencies, to guarantee optimal performance.
Furthermore, the proximity control attenuates the low-end frequencies when the speaker is placed against a wall. That's because the bass reflex port on the rear of the speaker might give some extra boost when it's placed against a wall, and that's not always a good thing. Furthermore, there's a 3-band EQ that allows you to fine-tune the sound yourself by tweaking the amount of highs or lows. It features a sleek design with a grey finish that perfectly matches your Denon DJ setup or computer setup.
The SM50 speakers feature balanced XLR or TRS jack input, but they can also be connected using the unbalanced RCA inputs. As such, they're highly versatile and allow you to connect virtually any audio source you want.
