NAMM 2016: Vic Firth Honours Four Drummers with Signature Drumsticks
Vic Firth expanded its already impressive assortment with four remarkable pairs of drumsticks. These are signature sticks for a number of very different drummers: Keith Moon (The Who), Ray Luzier (Korn), Jen Ledger (Skillet) en Chris Coleman (Stevie Wonder, Prince and Christina Aguilera, among others). Of course, all these sticks are made to suit their individual preferences.
Keith Moon
The Keith Moon signature drumsticks are medium thick and feature a fast sloping medium taper. They offer the punch that perfectly matches Moon's energetic play style.
Ray Luzier
Sticks that carry Ray Luzier's name have to be able to handle his aggressive playing. These sticks have a standard 5B shaft, but they're a little longer and feature a short taper and thick shoulder. They're great stick for high-volume playing, as well as subtle buzz rolls.
Jen Ledger
Jen Ledger's signature sticks also have to stand up to quite a bit of abuse, of course, but she's chosen quite a different design. Using American Classic 3As as a base, she wanted these relatively heavy sticks to be a little longer, and gave them a longer taper for the right balance between flexibility and rebound.
Chris Coleman
As a session drummer, Chris Coleman has to play many different styles, so he needed a stick that could do the same. These sticks are also based on the 3As, and feature the same short taper, diameter and length. However, the oval tip is a little bulkier, which allows for a fuller sound on both drums and cymbals alike.
