Pioneer's New TOUR System for Arenas and Festivals
With the festival season quickly approaching, Pioneer has taken the opportunity to launch their new TOUR system, which includes the DJM-TOUR1 mixer and the CDJ-TOUR1 media player. The first thing you'll notice is the hinged, adjustable 13-inch touchscreen that you can angle as desired. Pioneer has also worked to further enhance the technology of this gear to provide great-sounding music to massive audiences.
The best of the best
According to Pioneer themselves, they have equipped their TOUR1 setup with the very latest technology. Both the CDJ-TOUR1 and the DJM-TOUR1 feature an ES9018 32-bit D/A converter by ESS Technology that keeps noise and distortion to a minimum, and delivers a well-defined sound (96 kHz/24 bits). To guarantee great audio, the power circuitry has been separated from the other print plates to ensure little to no unwanted noise. Thanks to Neutrik ethercon LAN connectors and gold-plated RCAs, Pioneer's TOUR1 setup boasts immaculate sound quality. And, of course, the 13-inch full-colour touchscreens with built-in CPU allow you complete control over your mixing processes.
Comprehensive mixer
At first glance, the CDJ-TOUR1 looks a lot like the CDJ-2000NXS2, which means those who are familiar with the latter will feel right at home with the former. Besides the new tilting screen, the biggest difference between the two is on the inside, hidden from view. High-resolution is the key term here. Everything can be sent via the digital S/PDIF output and the CDJ-TOUR1 was designed specifically to play FLAC and ALAC formats with zero loss. With a Pro DJ link, you can control four players from a single source with features like Beat Sync and Countdown at your fingertips.
The compact 7-inch screen on the CDJ was practical, but the new touchscreen is a big improvement - literally! The built-in CPU makes it possible to apply other features in the future - but Pioneer is keeping those a secret for the time being. In any case, you can filter tracks according to BPM, key, or even your own customised tags, which is no problem, especially if you're using an assignable keyboard. The new multi-wave view is particularly cool. With it, you can see the waveforms of four different CDJs. If you're outdoors and can't see the screen properly, simply slide out the sunshade!
Be still, our beating heart
All this won't get you very far without a mixer, but that's where the DJM-TOUR1 comes in. Its design is very similar to the DJM-900NXS2, which also means it'll be easy to work with for those who are familiar with Pioneer's earlier products. What's truly 'pioneering' about Pioneer's DJM-TOUR1 is that it's the very first mixer with a digital AES/EBU output that can be connected to the front of the house. Even at long distances, the signal will remain lossless and thanks to the hi-res word clock, you'll experience zero latency. This connection ensures the very best synchronisation with the audio technicians at the mixing console. With a dynamic range of up to 129 dB, high volume levels are no problem. With 64-bit floating point mixing processing, you'll always have an accurate, natural sound.
You may think the CDJ-TOUR1 has an impressive list of features, but the DJM has even more. Using the two autonomous headphone outputs, you can preview your tracks without bothering your partner and spin your tracks back-to-back with ease. Of course, you can also expand on your existing setup with drum computers, synthesizers, or samplers using the combined XLR/TRS connection. Seeing as all your fans can't physically be in the same place at the same time, Pioneer has equipped the DJM with a KUVO Gateway. This social platform allows you to share which tracks you’re playing with your fans all over the world, in real time!
In a nutshell, this is Pioneer's ultimate flagship, which is why it's only available from a specialised dealer. The CDJ-TOUR1 will probably be retailed at £3849, and the DJM-TOUR1 at £4649. Below is a list of detailed specifications of both devices. For more news, sign up for our newsletter!
