General

If you like to keep your studio modular, then you're sure to get a kick out of the Mode Machines OMF-1 Oakley-Moog-Filter bank. Basically, it's a complete filter module in the shape of a 19-inch rack unit. It has two low-pass-filters: a 6dB filter and a 24dB filter (based on the famous design by Bob Moog himself). In the OMF-1, they are called Fizz and Smooth, respectively. Because the output of both these filters can be inverted, it's possible to create a band-pass filter as well. The OMF-1 also offers you self-oscillation if the resonance is turned up.

Mode Machines OMF-1 dynamics

A static filter is actually a sort of equalizer, which is fun to play with, but isn';t very dynamic. That's why there are three envelope possibilities on the OMF-1. FLR mode offers a traditional envelope-follower; play louder and the filter opens further. AD adds attack and decay (the up/down rotary knobs) if the OMF-1 received a signal at a certain volume. This is handy for percussive effects in particular. AR uses the up/down rotary knobs for attack and release, triggered by the LFO or the external gate.

Additional options

The OMF-1 also boasts side-chaining, which means that signal A (your music) is filtered, but dynamic filters are triggered by signal B (a bass drum hit for instance). Using the LFO mentioned above, it's easy to create and adjust the speed of funky wah-wah effects. In general, the OMF-1 is a machine for sound designers; just imagine what you could do with a complete synthesizer or a guitar! All you need is a few jack cables and you're good to go.
