The Waldorf Streichfett string synthesizer is a compact desktop module for true synth fans who love a bit of retro and vintage. The Streichfett has been developed to create synthetic strings - that typical sound from the 1970s and 1980s. The original string synthesizers were actually quite simple in design, but their characteristic sound has earned them a well-deserved place in the music history books. Waldorf takes you straight back the beginning of virtual instruments with a modern version of the delectable strings sound, with many new options.
The Streichfett string synthesizer is a desktop module with two sound sections: an ensemble section that offers sounds like violin, brass and choir, and a solo/bass section. This latter monophonic section features an adjustable split point, so you can control the bass section with your left hand while your right hand plays ensemble chords. There’s a moderate but adequate envelope generator for each section, so you can determine the attack and decay (or even crescendo and decrescendo, if you wish). For the final touch, the Streichfett has an effect section with effects such as phaser and reverb - the ultimate effects for this type of string synthesizer.
The Waldorf Streichfett can be used for various purposes. First of all, it’s a great asset for synthesizer enthusiasts, especially fans of artists such as Jean Michel Jarre (Oxygene) and Vangelis (Chariots of Fire/Blade Runner) and film composers like Francis Lai (Bilitis). The string synth can also be used for modern pop music, though - it’s not unusual for old synthesizer concepts to pop up in the mainstream. In short, the Streichfett is a wonderful choice for musicians who are not afraid to experiment and dare to be different.
