The tremolo harmonica is quite similar to the diatonic Richter-tuned harmonica, or blues harp. Yet, instead of one row, the tremolo harmonica has two separated rows of holes. For each note, there are two reeds that both have a slightly different tuning. This causes a somewhat wavering sound with a quickly varying volume. This warbling sound effect is called ‘tremolo’ and provides a very rich harmonica sound.
Most tremolo harmonicas are tuned in the same way as the Richter-tuned harmonicas. It is possible to use techniques like overblowing and bending but a blues harp might be a more appropriate instrument for that.
