Category information

If you're the proud owner of a brand new keyboard or stage piano and realise that your kitchen table isn't exactly the most comfortable spot to start learning or honing your skills, then you might want to think about kitting yourself out with a keyboard stand. Keyboard stands can be set to the optimum playing height, improving your playing and keeping you healthy.

Why Get a Keyboard Stand?

Besides giving your keyboard a secure and stable spot, the height of pretty much any keyboard stand can be adjusted so you can play comfortably whether standing up or sitting down. While you could simply stick your keyboard on your kitchen table, kitchen tables aren't exactly designed for the purpose and tend to sit too low, which runs the risk of teaching beginner pianists bad technique and playing posture. Of course, you could also use a height-adjustable keyboard stool - as long as it's high enough for your table. But in the end, the best and easiest solution is always going to be a keyboard stand.

Piano Stands

There are two different kinds of stands designed for digital pianos. The first are the normal keyboard stands found in this section, which can also be used to support stage pianos (just make sure to double check the specifications so you know the stand can handle the weight of your particular model). The second are free-standing frames. These are usually designed by manufacturers and are only compatible with specific models. The immediate benefit of these kinds of stands is they can give your piano a proper upright-piano-style look. On the page of every digital piano we stock, you'll be able to see if there's a compatible stand unit or any bundle deals including a stand. See our complete range of piano stands for a full overview.

The Heavy Lifters: 88-Note Keyboard Stands

If you have a fairly hefty keyboard, like a model with eighty-eight notes, then it's worth looking for a stand with a more robust build so it's able to handle the weight. A lot of keyboard stands are described as 'X-style', because the two-part construction makes an 'X' when the stand is set up. Since most keyboards aren't so heavy, most X-style stands will do the job, but because 88-note keyboards tend to be heavier, you'll need to double check the specifications so you're sure that the stand will be able to handle the extra weight. Otherwise, you could opt for an extra-strong Z-style stand (which is shaped like a 'Z' when the stand is set up) or a table-style stand.

Double Keyboard Stands

So, having a keyboard stand means that you can easily adjust the playing height. But what about double keyboard stands? More experienced keyboard players (so players who have well-trained forearms and wrists) will have no problem playing a keyboard that's placed a bit too high up. And since you can set up two different keyboards or synths on a double keyboard stand, you're free to expand your setup whether you're on stage or working in the studio.
