At first glance it looks more like a pocket calculator than a synthesizer, but that is what the PO-14 is. Of course it's not the first time that Swedish manufacturer Teenage Engineering breaks with tradition and comes up with something truly out of the ordinary. The PO-14 Pocket Operator Sub is so small you can just slide it in your bag with the rest of your stuff. Enterprising students may even hide it in their pencil case. Don't be fooled by the compact, stripped-down looks, though - the PO-14 has the music-making power it takes to become a real cult hit.

Characteristics of the Teenage Engineering PO-14

Teenage Engineering describe their Pocket Operators as micro synths, and this Sub is the bass synthesizer of the series. The PO-14 has a fairly traditional setup with a 16-step sequencer, and offers 16 different sounds and 16 effects/play styles. Each Pocket Operator has its own set of effects - the PO-14 offers different options than the PO-12, for instance. The small buttons and knobs may take a little getting used to, but in no time you'll be cranking out groovy bass lines like a pro.

Like all Teenage Engineering products, the TE Pocket Operators offer a cool blend of stylish looks, remarkable functionality and awesome visuals - the animated display of this PO-14 Sub drum synth features a cleverly detailed little submarine, for instance. Basically, the PO-14 is nothing more than a circuit board with a number of components, but Teenage Engineering has managed to add a built-in speaker, an alarm clock and a 3.5mm line in/out to the design. The micro synth is powered by 2 AAA batteries and easily fits in your pocket.
