Some devices just really blow your mind... Take the Teenage Engineering PO-16 Pocket Operator Factory, for instance - who'd guess that this tiny little thing is an actual synthesizer? The PO-16 has everything it takes to become a real hit, especially teamed up with the PO-12 and PO-14, two similar micro synths. The PO-16 Factory has been specifically developed to create synth melodies and leads, and offers tremendous processing technology in a miniature but very stylish package.
Characteristics of the Teenage Engineering PO-16
Like the PO-12 and PO-14, the Pocket Operator Factory is equipped with a 16-step sequencer. The micro synth offers 16 different sounds, as well as 16 effects/play styles, and can be operated by means of small buttons and knobs. Working with the PO-16 may take a little getting used to, but you'll be jamming away in no time. Onlookers will be amazed when they see you cranking out amazing melodies, using nothing but a stripped-down, pocket calculator-size device.
Pocket Operators
Like all Teenage Engineering products, the TE Pocket Operators offer a cool blend of stylish looks, remarkable functionality and awesome visuals - the animated display of this PO-16 Factory melody synth features an extensive factory setting, complete with forklifts and a crane operator. In essence, the PO-16 is nothing more than a circuit board with a number of components, but Teenage Engineering has managed to add a built-in speaker, an alarm clock and a 3.5mm line in/out to the design. ten opzichte van de andere po's in deze serie is deze qua stock geluiden een stuk minder leuk, ik heb er 3 tussen die ik niet te schel vind zonder het te tweaken. zeer hard aan te raden even te sparen voor een metal serie of voor een sub te gaan.

Voor mij echt te duur voor wat je er mee kunt. Om een volledige octaaf te spelen moet je tweaken tot je er dood bij neervalt en de geluidskwaliteit is middelmatig. Ik begrijo dat er een doelgroeo is voor deze apparaten maar ik behoor daar niet bij.

Eén van mijn minder favoriete pocket operators. Ik vind hem vergelijkbaar met de Sub, het speciale effect is min of meer hetzelfde. Velen prijzen hem wel aan voor zijn diversiteit aan geluiden, ik hem eerder een jack off all trades en master of none.
De geluiden doen het ook niet echt voor mij, ik raad je aan eerst de geluiden na te gaan en te zien of dit bij je past.

De synth uit de eerste reeks van de Pocket Operators.
Er blijven maar twee parameters per synth geluid te tweaken, dus je hebt geen vol tweak gevoel als je bij een synth verwacht, maar dat kun je van dit speeltje niet verwachten. Bekijk anders ook de eens de PO-28.
Met de (beperkte) micro-drums kun je dit apparaatje solo gebruiken, maar een PO-12 erbij is veel leuker!
Plussen en minnen:
+ PO-16: De arpeggio (alleen presets) zijn erg leuk.
+ PO-16: Micro-drums als 16de geluid (gebruik een PO-12 voor volwaardigheid)
- PO-16: Iets te weinig synth tweak mogelijkheden.
+ PO serie: Leuk speelgoed voor de muziek creatievelingen.
- PO serie: Klein, fragiel, maar solide. Hoesje nodig voor bescherming onderweg.
