From 4 GB onwards, SD cards go by the name SDHC (High Capacity) and can only be used with devices that carry the SDHC logo. Likewise, extra-large SDXC cards only work with devices with the SDXC logo. It is, however, possible to place older cards in more recent devices.
SD cards are available in the standard format and as mini and macro variants that have been designed specifically for small devices. A card's speed is expressed in megabytes per second (2, 4, 6, 10, 16), which is the most reliable indicator. This indicates the minimum speed.
