General
Midas has given the MR18 mixer digital functionality as well as 18 high-quality preamplified XLR/TRS combo inputs and can be operated via iOS, Android, PC or Mac. With the MR18, you've got unlimited possibilities at your fingertips including mobility and a 31-band EQ on the inserts. Optionally, you can connect a MIDI device to the MIDI input/output. As well as 16 inputs, the Midas MR18 also has six XLR/AUX outputs and two XLR/Main outputs and there's also a jack output for a set of headphones. In addition, the apps for this device can be downloaded free of charge and there are free plugins available on the Midas website as well!

This is a great value product. I believe the Midas pre-amps make it worth the extra over the Behringer version. I have used it primarily for recording purposes, but it will be used for small live events in the future. I would still rather trust a fully fledged mixer for larger events, but the features and sound quality of this unit make it a worthy purchase.

Wel apart, voorheen was dit gewoon de Behringer Air X18, alleen nu een midas prijsje naar mijn mening. Helaas scheelt dat best wel een hoop centjes. Ik heb de X18 gehad en was een leuk ding, maar nu een tascam model24 en das toch wel even iets anders.

Geweldig apparaat, stagebox en digitale mixer in een compacte behuizing. Klinkt ook geweldig door de Midas Pro Preamps. Makkelijk te bedienen met voldoende support voor verschillende apparaten.

Top ding! Deze mixer heeft me al een paar keer doen verbazen. Zeer makkelijk om te bedienen. Ik heb hem met de band gekocht omdat we een digitale mixer nodig hadden die we zelf konden bedienen. Tot nu werkten we met een analoog 16 kanaals mixertje waarvan de EQ het op sommige kanalen liet afweten. We spelen vooral in kleine zalen, cafe's en clubs en om dan een mixer mee te vragen is wat overkill. Om onze sound en speelcomfort te verbeteren is deze mixer ideal. Ook op repetities is dit ding top. We hangen er een paar actieve speakers aan en klaar!
Met max 4 devices kan je deze mixer bedienen via mac/pc iOS of android. De Mac en PC apps zijn prima (ze zien er ook hetzelfde uit). Ik heb zelf een iPhone en helaas is daar geen app op. Op mijn android phone en tablet wel. De iPad app werkt iets minder vlot als de android app. Dus mijn voorkeur gaat uit naar de android bediening en de mac of pc app deze werken het vlotste. Ik heb ook nog geen wifi problemen ondervonden. Ons netwerk is beveiligd dus er kan niemand op zonder pass.
Op elk kanaal staat alles wat je nodig hebt. (Gate, EQ Dyn) Doe daar nog een massa's effecten bij en het feestje kan beginnen. Effecten kan je ook insterteren op kanalen en dus bv ook op de master een lekkere eind compressie zetten. Je hebt wel 4 slots maar dat is zeker genoeg.
Naast een mixer is dit ook een interface 18in en uit!
BV je hebt 4 backing tracks op 4 verschillende sporen in Ableton die je via external output naar de USB inputs van de mixer kan sturen. Track 1-4 heeft dan usb input en de rest analoge inputs.
Ander voorbeeld: Je wil je show opnemen en alle 18 tracks binnenhalen. Je kan zelfs per kanaal kiezen of je signaal afneemt vanaf de input, pre of post eq, pre of post fader + mute etc. M.a.w. super flexibel.
Via de routing mogelijkheden kan je verschillende kanten op gaan om bv meerdere kanalen te feeden naar 1 usb input.
Je bent er wel even zoet mee om al deze dingen te leren kennen. Maar als je weet waar alles staat en je snel kan problem solven dan ben je snel mee met deze nieuwe manier van mixen. Gedaan met achter een tafeltje staan op een slechte luisterpositie, gedaan met aan de mixer vragen of er wat in je monitor mag... Ooh ja een grafische EQ om te LR is de kers op de taart.
De apps zijn gratis om te downloaden. Voor de aankoop heb ik me er al enkele dagen in verdiept om te checken wat deze mixer allemaal kan.
Ik hoop er nog lang mee te kunnen werken.

I doubt theres a better bargain on the market at the moment..
16 Midas Pro preamps for 698!?!
I use the MR18 as extra pre in the studio. It is as good as the rest of my preamps (RME, UA, Focusrite ISA..) with the difference of having a channel strip or effect pre-DAW if I want to..
Live its a great mixer. The glorious XAir 18 but with 5db les floor noise, and a slightly more open sounding preamp who gives the famous Midas harmonics when pushed hard. For the rest, its an Xair 18 on steroids. What was a stroke of genius just became a bit better. And for the price difference you would be silly not to indulge yourself with the MR.
PLUS
-Preamps!
-Its a Xair18 and you can use the Behringer Xair app as well as the Midas MR! (I was able to load all my XR settings on the Midas mixer in 1 sec,)
-Until now the MR is more stable and reliable than my old Xair.. it might be totally related to luck, but the MR havent froze or needed reset yet. I havent lost sync or other small irritation common with the XR. (Again, this is subjectif and might be only related to the units I have.)
MINUS
- The MR get hotter than the Xair..
Not that it caused problems or anything else (yet). But the operating temperature of the MR is noticeably higher than the XR but has the same cooling.. food for thought for the one with a closed crowded rack on a warm summer day..
