With the DDJ-SR, Pioneer has once again firmly established its position as market leader in the world of DJing. This two-channel controller for Serato DJ has nearly the same characteristics as the popular and renowned DDJ-SX, but comes in a practical, cost-efficient two-deck size. Designed to be used with Serato software, the advanced and rugged DDJ-SR is the ideal mid-range DJ controller for DJs who are looking for an excellent piece of gear without having to pay a top-range price. Per deck, the compact DDJ-SR features 8 velocity-sensitive pads that can be used multifunctionally, and a smooth and relatively high jog wheel for easy, unlimited scratching.
Concept of the DDJ-SR
Pioneer's ultra-compact and rugged DDJ-SR has the same solid construction as the DDJ-SX, which makes it exceptionally roadproof and perfect for mobile use. The controller features all the basic functions you need as a DJ for extensive and creative mixing. Effect parameters can be set by means of supple knobs that give you control over Serato's high-quality effects module, which was developed by Izotope. Besides the aforementioned velocity-sensitive pads, each of the controller's two decks features an extensive loop section. It's even possible to control four virtual decks, by switching between decks 1/3 and 2/4. Just like the DDJ-SX, the DDJ-SR is equipped with a practical mixer section, which features the familiar Pioneer filters.
Connectors and other features
The DDJ-SR offers a slimmed-down version of the connecting options of the DDJ-SX, which benefits its price tag. The DDJ-SR features fewer inputs than its larger counterpart, but is fitted with an auxiliary line input, which enables you to connect an external CD player or DJ system. Volume controls can be found at the back, as well as a booth output that, like the aux in, comes in stereo RCA. As the Pioneer DDJ-SR has the same balanced outputs as the DDJ-SX, you can easily connect the controller to a high-quality PA system. Meanwhile, 6.35mm TRS jack plugs allow you to connect your system to active speakers, amplifiers or DJ monitors if you are playing at home. A headphone output with volume control and a microphone input can be found on the controller's front panel.
Tips or comments about this productPlease note:
- At present, Serato DJ does not support AMD processors or Windows 8.
- As opposed to the DDJ-SX, the DDJ-SR does not have centrally illuminated jog wheels.

Je le recommande pour les DJ débutant .
Ook de Serato software werkt vlekkeloos samen met deze controller en is een genot om te gebruiken. Het uiterlijk van de software is aan te passen naar je eigen voorkeur en als je het programma eenmaal kent is alle nodige informatie in één oogopslag te vinden.
Er zijn een aantal dingen die achteraf toch een nadeel blijken te zijn:
- Het 'Mixer gedeelte' is maar 2-kanaals, dit betekent dat als je bijvoorbeeld van deck 2 naar deck 3 schakelt, je eerst alle knoppen naar de oorspronkelijke stand moet draaien om die voor deck 3 te kunnen aanpassen.
- De koptelefoon uitgang en mic ingang zitten aan de voorzijde, dit kan lastig zijn voor sommige toepassingen.
- Als je het 'Roll' effect gebruikt terwijl je een loop aan hebt staan, wordt de loop automatisch opgeheven. Bij het gebuiken van het Roll effect word tevens de grootte van de auto-loop aangepast, als je een loop wilt starten moet je dus steeds de loop terug instellen naar 8 of 16 beats.
- De aux-ingang is alleen regelbaar op de achterkant van het apparaat.
Ondanks deze nadelen vind ik de Pioneer DDJ-SR een geweldig apparaat met meer dan genoeg functies, voor de beginnende DJ en zelfs voor de professionele DJ.
