The Roland TAIKO-1 electronic percussion pad puts a full and forceful set of Japanese taiko drums within easy reach. Access the thunder of the odaiko as well as the subtle tick of the shime-daiko, all courtesy of one compact pad. Even the instantly recognisable sound of the nagado daiko and a stack of other sounds including small cymbals (chappa), various stick-sounds (bachi), and wood blocks (hyoshigi), and seamlessly layer drum lines with the shouts and calls of traditional taiko performances.

Condensing Taiko

Taiko are hefty Japanese drums traditionally played at local events and festivals and form an integral part of Japanese performance art and rituals. By packing the full sound of taiko inside the lightweight and manageable form of the TAIKO-1 drum pad that can be comfortably carried on one shoulder, Roland have handed percussionists a unique opportunity to tote a full troupe of taiko into the studio and onto the stage, fully backed up by a set of dual-zone pads and access to a vast array of possible sounds.

Classical Japanese Percussion & Modern Perks

Since this drum is electronic and comes fitted with responsive, low-noise mesh-heads, it can even be used for private rehearsals at home, so you can drill ju-uchi patterns and hone your timing using back tracks (you can even stream them via Bluetooth) in the comfort of your living room and without bothering the neighbours. The built-in sound module of the TAIKO-1 also spares space for importing custom WAV samples so they can be combined and weaved into the library of internal sounds already on offer, completing a comfortable and brilliantly flexible instrument that combines the sound and technique of classical Japanese percussion and the modern perks of Roland-grade design.
