General
This UK version of the Steinberg UR242 is a complete audio interface for PC, Mac and iPad. With two inputs on the front, it looks similar to many other audio interfaces. Turn it round however, and you'll notice two additional line inputs on the back. That means that as well as two microphones or one microphone and an instrument, you've still got two inputs free for something like a stereo keyboard or a synthesizer. There are also classic MIDI IN/OUT connectors and the interface comes with Cubase AI so that you can start recording right away.
UR242: DSP effects
The UR242 has a DSP chip on board that provides the processing power for the internal effects, including the Sweet Spot Morphing Channel Strip, the REV-X and Guitar Amp Classics. The effects can be accessed via Cubase AI, and used to give the incoming signal a professional touch. Because the interface has its own processor, it won't affect your computer's performance. The Channel Strip can be used to adjust the EQ and compression and the REV-X lets you add reverb effects. You probably won't be surprised to learn that you can simulate guitar amplifiers using the Guitar Amp Classics effect.
Plenty of possibilities
Although you get Steinberg Cubase AI included with the UR242, it works with all major DAWs. Not only that, it also works with an iPad! For that, you'll need the Cubasis app and a USB to 30-pin or Lightning adapter. With the internal DSP MixFX, the inputs and outputs can be routed, again without using any of your computer's processing power. It does all of this in 24-bit, 192 KHz professional quality. This also makes it suitable for guitarists who use software when playing live, for software-loving keyboardists, or for those who just want to use it for recording. The Steinberg UR242 can do it all!
