Hammond have pulled nothing short of an astounding instrument out of their capable bag. The Melodion PRO-24B is essentially a bass-melodica complete with 24 keys that amount to close-to two octaves in a super-low register that can be played alongside 'normal' melodicas or Hammond's other melodions. The sound produced by the PRO-24B is best described as something like a tenor or baritone saxophone and has an equally comparable amount of volume and presence. This refreshing wind instrument will lend a unique layer to any kind of music.
The Melodion PRO-24B: Electro-Acoustic Bass Melodica
We already get that this is far from any standard melodica, but Hammond have managed to take things a few steps further by integrating not one, but two lavalier microphones into the design of this Melodion. Its acoustic sound is easily amplified by hooking up a standard jack cable that can be connected to a mixer, DI box or a wireless belt-pack transmitter and, since Hammond have made this character-packed instrument for professional use, it comes complete with two mouthpieces, a cleaning cloth and gig bag.

De Hammond komt in een goede tas, standaard mondstuk en korte slang. Slang is eigenlijk te kort om hem op je schoot te bespelen maar geeft wel flexibiliteit. Met dit twee-oktaafs klavier heb je sowieso niet veel aan twee handen op de toetsen. Ook bij de lage noten en tweeklanken heb je flink wat lucht nodig. Een lage tweeklank (zeg laagste F en eerste C) moet je eerst zorgen dat de lage noot klinkt voordat je de hogere er bij pakt. De hoeveelheid lucht die de lage noten nodig hebben in vergelijking met de hogere is groot.
Behuizing is kunststof maar voelt solide en is goed afgewerkt. Ingebouwde microfoons zijn ok, ze pakken wel wat omgevingsgeluid en contactgeluid mee, maar tot nu toe niet hinderlijk.
