If your straight microphone stand or boom mic stand can't reach the height you need, then you probably need an overhead mic stand. These stands can extend to a height of up to 5 metres and are designed for things like TV broadcasts, choirs or large-scale live productions, either live or in the studio. These extremely stable stands often feature a boom arm, and some even have wheels for easy mobility. To prevent the boom arm from gradually sinking down under the weight of the mic, some stands have a counterweight on the opposite side to balance it out.
