For any rhythmic kids with an interest in music, a children's cajon can be a great gift. With this percussive, box-like instrument, kids can start learning to play beats and even drum along to their favourite tunes.
Children's Cajons: An Accessible Instrument
Cajons that are specially designed for kids are much smaller than standard cajons. The size is important because, when playing a cajon, you actually sit on top of it like a stool while striking the front playing surface with both hands and, by alternating your strikes between the middle of the playing surface and the edges, you can vary the sound. You can also tap the sides of the cajon with your feet. Since no knowledge of music theory is required to play the cajon, anyone can get stuck in, and because of the technique required, playing the cajon can really help develop motor skills as well as rhythmic awareness. It's also a lot of fun. As well as single cajons designed for children, we also stock a range of cajon sets designed for music rooms in primary and play schools.
