Category information

Summing mixers form the bridge between fully digital mixing and mixing with an analogue desk. Since in-the-box mixing offers lots of people lots of advantages, many of them wouldn't want to go back to their analogue set-ups of old. Digital workflow can means full recall possibilities, not to mention that plug-ins and DAWs are cheaper than analogue mixers and matching hardware equalisers and compressors put together. Something the majority of producers and mixing engineers do miss in their digitalised workspaces is the right tone. An analogue mixer can't blend together signals as well as a DAW does and exactly therein lies the charm of analogue summing. To get back to the point, a summing mixer is basically nothing more than a slimmed down mixing desk. DAWs are perfectly capable of complex routings with inserts and auxiliaries while equalisers and compressors are covered by software plug-ins. The main task of a summing mixer is to mix signals together within the analogue domain. Check out the rest of our comprehensive collection of Studio Peripheral Gear here.
