Traditionally, the ukulele is played by clamping it against your body with your strumming arm - but since this was never all that comfortable, you could just use a ukulele strap instead. A strap doesn't just improve comfort, but removes the fear that your uke will fall and drop to the floor; places your instrument at the perfect playing height; and leaves you free to fully concentrate on your technique.
Fitting a Ukulele Strap
There are a few different types of ukulele straps out there, so if your model doesn't have any strap buttons, then you can use a classic strap fitted with a soundhole hook at one end and length of cord at the other end that you can tie around the headstock, just above the nut and under the strings. If your uke does have strap buttons, then you can go for a strap with strap button holes at each end - you'll also have a lot more models to choose from. If your ukulele only has one strap button on the base, then you can use a strap that has a strap button hole at one end and a length of cord for tying around the headstock at the other end.
Installing Strap Buttons
If your ukulele doesn't have any strap buttons, then you can always install a set. While it is a case of simply screwing them in at the right spot (the base and the upper shoulder), you might prefer to get a guitar luthier to do the job for you and avoid accidentally damaging your uke..
