Nothing beats the warm, rich sound of an authentic tube amp. The experts over at Driftwood agree and have come up with the Driftwood Purple Nightmare tube amp top. Hand-made in Germany and built according to modern specifications, this 100 Watt, flagship model sports a salt-n-pepper grill cloth and purple tolex and features two channels, two 6L6 tubes, two KT88 tubes and a built-in noise gate.

Purple Nightmare: The best nightmare you'll ever have

The clean channel ranges from crystal-clear to crunchy, while the burn channel ranges from crunchy to deafening high-gain. Both channels have their own 3-band EQ but shared rumble and sharp controls so you can shape away to your heart's desire. For even more tonal options, the Purple Nightmare comes with built-in TS overdrive that can be used as overdrive on the clean channel or to boost the burn channel into a supertight, superloud sound. Lots of gain comes with lots of noise and that's where the built-in noise gate comes in handy. Additionally, there's the practical double master volume controls that lets you play around with volume differences between the strums and solos.

Powerful tubes

The Purple Nightmare's base sound is shaped in the preamp, fitted with ECC83 tubes for that unmistakable tube sound with plenty of gain. In the power amp section, you'll find a pair of 6L6 and a pair of KT88 tubes that provide you with ample force, transparency and definition. Toggle the Night Switch mode to turn off the power amp section and switch to a 2-Watt MOSFET transistor amp so you can quietly practise at night and save your tubes some unnecessary work.

Tube amps may feature old-fashioned technology but the Purple Nightmare is as up-to-date as it can be. The double speaker outputs can be set to 4, 8 or 16 Ohms and almost all options this amp offers can be operated via a foot switch. You also get to choose which channel and which master volume switch you're using the TS overdrive and effects loop section with.
