Presenting the Iconic Series 5150 Combo, EVH grants affordable access to a genuine James Brown designed, guru-grade amp and that legendary 6L6 sound. In the preamp section sits a pair of JJ ECC83S (12AX7) valves while the power amp is home to two mighty JJ 6L6 tubes - a forceful set up that's been fully prepped for high-gain tone and comes voiced by a single 12 inch Celestion Custom speaker; designed specially to support the full character of this singular combo guitar amplifier.

The EVH 5150 Iconic Series Combo: Two Channels & Four Sounds

Keeping the overview clean and clear, EVH have given this amp a two channel configuration, where the first channel can be used to shape bright and sparkling cleans, while the second channel can be harnessed to conjure renowned distortions. Each channel comes with a second mode, doubling the range of tonal profiles, so you can hit the Overdrive button to add a tasteful edge to your Channel 1 cleans, and hit the Burn button to inject more gain into Channel 2 to support blistering leads. Dial up the Noise Gate pot to ensure a tight and tasty output, free of unwanted noise; add a touch of atmosphere using the built in reverb; and stick your go-to stompboxes through the effects loop.

Finish What Ya Started

Carve out your own sound using the shared three-band EQ section, and tweak the Presence and Resonance as preferred before balancing both channels using the two volume pots, while the Boost level pot can be pushed all the way up to 10dBs to really thrust solo work to the front. Switch through functions in real-time and with ease using the included footswitch. For smaller gigs and rehearsals, the 40 Watt output can be pulled back to just 10 Watts, and to ensure consistent sound no matter the setup, the EVH 5150 Iconic Series combo has been fitted with an XLR output complete with speaker emulation and a power amp mute switch.

Wrote the following about EVH 5150 Iconic Series 40W 1x12 Combo Black Tube Combo Guitar Amplifier

Deze EVH buizenversterker is ontworpen door James Brown ( nee niet de soul zanger), en heeft de echte Brown sound waar Eddie zo van hield.
Als echte Eddie van Halen fan sinds 1978, moest ik natuurlijk een 5150 versterker hebben.
Helaas waren ze altijd vrij duur, maar met deze 5150 uit de iconic series is daar ineens een betaalbare EVH versterker.
Dit is een twee kanaals versterker, waar kanaal 1 mooi clean klinkt, en met de overdrive pushbutton van clean naar medium distortion kan gaan, doe daar wat reverb bij en je hebt een leuke bluesrock sound.
Kanaal 2 is waar het om gaat, puur EVH high gain, die je met de pushbutton burn nog heavier kan laten klinken.
Dit geeft bijgeluiden, maar met de noise gate knop , die alleen voor kanaal 2 werkt is het een stuk minder.
Ook leuk is de bijgeleverde voetschakelaar.
Wil je dat je gitaar solo net iets harder klinkt dan de rest van de band, dan trap je op boost, en je solo springt eruit.
De versterker is vrij groot.
Hoogte 50.8 cm. Breed 57.2 cm. Diepte 28.6 cm . Gewicht 24 kg.
Er is een powerlevel shakelaar van full ( 40 w) naar 1/4 ( 10w) kan gaan.
Maar 10 w is nog steeds heel hard als je geen boze buren aan de deur wilt hebben.
Er is helaas geen koptelefoon aansluiting.
Hele leuke versterker waar ik nog wel even mee bezig ben voordat ik mijn favoriete sound heb gevonden.
Nu maar hopen dat de nieuwe EVH Eruption 78 in de striped series gauw te koop zal zijn zodat ik mijn beste versie van Eruption live kan spelen op feestjes.
