General

JHS Pedal's Emperor V2 is an analogue chorus/vibrato effects pedal that gives you warm '80s-style chorus, rotary and vibrato sounds as well as the hard-to-find sound of the Arion SCH-1. It's equipped with a Bucket Brigade 3207 chipset and you can use the on-board controls to create you perfect sound. The switch at the top lets you choose between chorus and vibrato effects, and the one underneath lets you select sine, square or sawtooth waveforms. You can control the tempo using the speed knob or the tap tempo footswitch, or you can even connect an external footswitch like an expression pedal to do it if you like.

Emperor V2: other controls and features

As well as the switches, the speed knob and the tap tempo footswitch, there are three other control knobs and another footswitch on board. Volume controls the output level and depth (along with speed) lets you adjust the chorus and vibrato settings. The other knob is an active EQ. The output jack is TRS for true stereo and the Emperor also has switchable buffered and true bypass!

This is a super chorus pedal that I've wanted to buy for a long time. Bax's B-Stock offer finally tempted me! The pedal arrived well-packed and in perfect condition, so I am over the moon with my purchase. I owned an Arion chorus back in the 80's (that this pedal is based on) and I'm glad to have those sounds, plus loads more versatility, back in my arsenal. I should also mention that the Arion was in a plastic housing and was a little flimsy, whereas the JHS Emperor is rock solid. Go Bax!

Geweldig chorus pedaal van JHS. Heldere geluidskwaliteit, goed instelbaar en vooral (zoals veel JHS pedalen) muzikaal inzetbaar in een mooie range van bruikbare geluiden. Bij mij geen extra ruis zoals een andere reviewer aangaf, terwijl ik toch een hele range pedalen heb (zonder noise gate). Ik ben zelf niet zo op zoek naar extreme geluiden die thuis leuk zijn om even mee te stoeien maar in praktijk een pedaal snel uit de bocht laten vliegen. Het tap tempo is geweldig goed bruikbaar in een live setting, en ook met een expressiepedaal zijn er interessante mogelijkheden.

Ik had hoge verwachtingen van deze chorus/vibrato. Het chorus deel klonk goed, authentiek, mooi en dik. Maar: ook met maximale instellingen blijft het een subtiele chorus. Het vibratodeel klonk een stuk beter! Mooi en veelzijdig instelbaar. MAAR: het pedaal ingeschakeld en niet spelend, maakt het pedaal toch behoorlijk wat kabaal. Tijdens het spelen merk je er niets van, maar het pedaal is zeker niet "stil".
