Ashdown ABM 500 EVO III: a versatile tonal beast
Both purists and technicians will find the Ashdown ABM 500 EVO III to be a reliable partner. Its three knobs allow you to boost or filter the tone controls at 60 Hz, 660 Hz and 5 kHz. They are accompanied by two pairs of faders that grant you access to +/- 15 dB at 180 Hz, 340 Hz, 1.3 kHz and 2.6 kHz. Plenty of options to create your own sound. You can even turn the EQ on or off via the optional FS-4 foot switch. Thanks to a button, the input control and a VU meter, you can optimally adjust the incoming signal to accommodate both passive and active bass guitars. The Valve Drive activates the 12AX7 preamp tube, for warm cleans to rough tube distortion/overdrive.
Versatile extra functions
In addition to the Valve Drive, you can also turn the on-board compressor and Ashdown's powerful Sub-Harmonic generator on or off with a foot switch. The Sub-Harmonic option reproduces the signal at an octave below the original. You can then use the knob to add the right amount of bass, from subtle and big to monstrously fat. The ABM 500 EVO III features a balanced D.I. output with pre/post EQ on the front panel, plus a separate line and tuner output. It also has a mute button that allows you to tune in silence. On the back is a line input to connect your MP3 player or iPod to, as well as an FX loop for external effects.
