A rubber floor mat usually suffices, but not if the cables are crossed by cars or forklifts. Of course, you'd probably rather not have a mat in the audience if the cables lead through the room.

Features of the Defender Compact cable protector

The Defender Compact cable protector is ideal if you are looking for a high-quality way to protect your cables. The protector is made of quality polyurethane and has an anti-skid surface so no one will slip. The overlay can be combined with the Defender Compact underlay or you can just use the overlay with the cables underneath it. The cabletray is three centimetres wide and high so it'll fit the thickest cables.
