Packed with two resonance chambers and not meant to be sat on, the Drum Cajon from Dutch builder, El Cajon Percusion, is specifically designed for drummers. Playing the cajon isn't as easy as it sounds. You're not only sitting on top of the instrument rather than behind it, but you're striking a vertical surface rather than a horizontal drum head. That does take a little bit of time to get used to!

The El Cajon Percusion ECP400DCP Drum Cajon

The Drum Cajon has two resonance chambers. The big one on the bottom is used to play the bass, either with your hands or with a purpose-built drum pedal with a cajon beater to get that authentic drumming experience. The upper resonance chamber is a lot smaller and as such, shapes a higher and brighter sound that's enhanced by snare wires fitted inside when you strike the top like a drum. Also, it's worth pointing out that the ECP400DCP is played on the side rather than the front.

The Ultimate Cajon for Drummers

You're not supposed to sit on the cajon to play it. It's best to fetch a drum throne, a little stool or a second cajon to sit on. In combination with a drum pedal, cajon brushes and a hi-hat, the Drum Cajon basically becomes a fully-fledged drum kit that's perfect for small, acoustic performances. The separate resonance chambers for the bass and snare can be individually amplified and the ECP400DCP measures 30 x 30 x 60cm.
