These rack shellies are used to create a rail between the front and the back of a rack to allow you to mount a plate for equipment that isn't 19-inch compatible. Additionally, these shellies can support your own custom plate (like a sleek sheet of glass) for fixed installations that also need to house non-19-inch equipment such as DVD players for example.
