General
Kinderen van rond de zes/zeven jaar oud hebben doorgaans baat bij een kleinere, 1/4-maat viool. Deze Scarlatti VL 1/4 is een aangenaam geprijsd instrument, voor ouders die nog niet weten of de viool een goede keus is voor hun kind. Interessant is ook dat de Scarlatti VL heel compleet is: hij is voorzien van fijnstemmers en wordt geleverd inclusief een vioolkoffer en strijkstok. De klankkast is gemaakt van massief sparrenhout en massief esdoornhout.
De viool-maat 1/4
De maat 1/4 is geschikt voor kinderen met een armlengte van circa 48 cm. U meet dit vanaf het midden van de handpalm tot de nek, direct onder de kaak. De hand zou zich nu comfortabel om de krul heen moeten kunnen vouwen, met de vingers wijzend naar het gezicht en de elleboog heel licht gekromd. Bij twijfel tussen twee maten, neemt u het beste de kleinste van de twee. 1/4 betekent overigens niet dat deze viool vier keer zo klein is als een normale 4/4 viool; het verschil is veel geringer.

Wij gebruiken verschillende strijkstokken om percussie-effecten te creëren op vibrafoon- en marimbalatten. De hars zorgt ervoor dat er makkelijk geluid ontstaat.
Er blijft wel wat residue hangen op de latten zelf, maar met een simpele veeg is het weg.
