The Aquila 186C Ambra 900 Series is a set of treble strings (E, B and G) for classical and historical guitars. These strings are made from gut-coloured Super Nylgut: a modern synthetic material developed to approximate the character of traditional gut strings. Think of that typical natural brilliance, clear articulation and strong tonal presence for which gut trebles are renowned. This gives you a historically inspired sound, but with the reliability you’d expect from modern materials.

Historical feel, modern convenience

Aquila bases the Ambra 900 trebles on early 20th-century setups, with diameters that correspond to representative averages as described by Pujol (Escuela Razonada de la Guitarra, 1934). The surface has also been carefully ‘rectified’, inspired by traditional finishing techniques for gut strings. The result is a response and clarity strongly reminiscent of genuine gut, without the fragility and unpredictability that can sometimes accompany it.

For E tuning and 435 Hz

This low-tension set is intended for E tuning (EADgbe) and has been designed with 435 Hz tuning in mind. Practical benefit: the strings have a short break-in period and thereafter remain neatly in tune with stable intonation. This makes them an interesting choice for players seeking the tonal qualities of historical (gut) treble strings, whilst still desiring consistent performance during daily playing.
