With the Tone Master, Fender brings its classic sound right up to date. Since numerous modelling and profiling amplifiers often give you such a numerous and broad spectrum of options, sounds and emulators that you rarely, if ever use, Fender have put things into more focus with the Deluxe Reverb. All you get with this combo is a faithful modelling of the power section and circuit of the original Fender Deluxe Reverb and frankly, this might be all you would ever need!
Deluxe Reverb: authentic sound in a modern package
The remarkable Fender technology housed in this amp is coupled with the sparkling brightness of a 12-inch Jensen N-12K neodymium. On the back, the attenuator has six settings so you can tame the powerful 100 Watts this combo is capable of and use it in the studio, rehearsal room and bedroom as well as on stage. There is a thoughtful XLR output with impulse response (IR) to keep your sound consistent whether you're playing live or recording. The amp is complete with a two button footswitch included for extra convenience.
No tubes, no problem!
We live in a time when tubes or valves are becoming more scarce and therefore expensive. As such, it's reassuring to see that a dependable brand like Fender have already started investing in alternatives. Since the tubes are gone, this model is not only lighter on your wallet but noticeably lighter to lug around. As such, it might actually be that the Tone Master Ultralight Deluxe Reverb has even more advantages than its much older brother. You can also shed any doubts when it comes to the reliability of this amp since it's robust housing will happily survive the trip through every venue, in every country if it needs to. If you take care of it, it will take care of you!

You will not believe how light in weight this is. Being solid state, built with a pine cabinet and sporting a neodymium speaker (more about the speaker to follow) the total weight is just over 10kg, perfect for those like me who can't cope with the heavy weight of traditional valve amps any more.
I found the sound through the speaker to be a bit muddy and indistinct, but still not too bad. I would guess that changing the speaker would help and it would still be no heavier than a Blues Junior. Using the balanced line out into a mixer gave the exact sound I was looking for.
The back panel has an attenuator so that you can select the output power from 6 settings, useful for home use and different sized venues. There is also a standby switch for silent recording or no backline sound on stage. There is no speaker socket, the speaker being hard wired so no alternate or auxiliary speaker can be used without a bit of no doubt warranty-cancelling surgery.
The internal "firmware" can be easily upgraded by means of a mini USB port but Fender don't supply a suitable cable which is a bit mean. Lucky that I already had one. The upgrade process was easy enough using a laptop with USB port.
This product is made in China, but don't let that put you off, so are some Volvo cars! It is solidly built with proper metal shafts on all the pots, unlike some of the other cheaper Chinese offerings from Fender with their plastic shafts. The cabinet is well-finished and certainly looks the part. The Tone Master badge on the lower front looks like it can be removed easily if you want people to think you have coughed up a ridiculous amount of money for the "real thing".
Being solid state, the output is rated as !00 watts, which is supposed to be the equivalent of a the valve version's 22 watts, but either way, it's LOUD!
