General

The 7.25-inch synthetic sheet on the hand-hammered aluminium shell gives a solid bass tone when you hit in the middle ('doom'), and a bright high sound with fine sustain when you hit near the edge ('branch'). The 13.33-inch deep, hand-hammered shell is made of aluminium, which obviously contributes to the excellent resonance of this fine vaast drum. Fully in the Turkish tradition, the tensioning screws are attached close to the bowl at the same height as the rim. Comes complete with tuning spanner.

Darbuka

In the Arab percussion world, the darbuka (pronounced darboeka) is one of the most widely used instruments. The darbuka belongs to the vase drum family and is best compared to the doumbek in terms of sound. Originally from northern Africa, the darbuka is also widely used in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Darbuka players are also called 'drabki', they are often responsible for the musical accompaniment of belly dancers. Djembés, from western Africa, are also part of the vase drum family, but have nothing to do with the darbuka in terms of sound and playing technique as well as materials.
