Ableton offers a unique approach to music composition. While most software packages focus on individual notes, Ableton focuses on optimising live performances and creating high-level compositions by means of small blocks with MIDI and/or audio data which is organised in a large grid. You determine which block is played when, which you can do by means of an Ableton controller, on stage in real-time , if desired. The sky is the limit with Ableton's Live 9 Suite producer software!
New functions in Ableton Live 9 Suite
The program includes 54 GB of samples in all different genres. That's not all though, as you can also create your own samples as well! You've got 9 virtual instruments and 40 effects to play with, and the only limit to the number of MIDI and/or audio tracks is your computer's capacity. Adventurous technicians can experiment with the Max for Live modular system that enables you to construct your own custom effects. With Audio-to-MIDI, you can extract MIDI notes from audio files or even your own vocals. This means you can hum your composition into a microphone and then turn it into MIDI data which you can then assign to any number of virtual instruments!
Who is this software for?
The way this software works makes it perfect for electronic music producers who specialise in genres like house, dance, trance and dub-step. It also offers the option to work on a project using an external controller, which is equally handy for live applications as well. Ableton does not only cater to these specific genres, however, and offers a wide array of orchestral sounds as well, for instance.
