Steinberg recognises the need for starter software and invites you to begin with the Steinberg Cubase Elements 8 sequencer. The pack has been considerably thinned-out and has received a more attractive price tag as a result; but if you think it's become too limited to create anything worthwhile, think again.
To give you an idea: Elements 8 has 48 audio and 64 MIDI tracks. Just try and fill all those tracks without your creative juices being drained out of you and turned into mush! Especially for beginners, it's clear that the possibilities are more than sufficient. This pack includes dozens of plug-ins (instruments and effects), so you can start producing straight away. Halion Sonic SE2, Groove Agent SE4 and Prologue are just a few of the highlights in the included virtual instrument line up. Effects that deserve special attention are the channel strip modules and the VST Amp Rack in the PitchCorrect, a plugin that can make anyone's vocals sound in tune. Of course it's also possible to use third-party plugins. With a range of both commercial and free virtual instruments and effects to choose from, the possibilities are virtually endless.
A new window system allows you to place Cubase function windows anywhere on your desktop, which means you won't need to enlarge your Cubase window anymore. Those who work with multiple screens will jump for joy! ASIO Guard 2, a kind of latency manager, ensures that the latency remains small where it matters, and becomes larger where possible. The instrument rack has been vastly improved; the plugin is now visible and you can operate essential parameters. Navigation between transients in your audio is also easy - Cubase automatically filters out the peaks in the background, which you can decide to use if you want.
