General
Hohner's Big River harmonica gets its name from America's largest river: the Mississippi. After all, that's where the blues originated over a century ago. A harmonica did not come into play there right away, but today the little instrument is almost indispensable in the blues, and many more different styles of music. The sound of that era is produced by the Big River Harp MS. It takes you back to the beginnings of modern music. This diatonic harmonica is tuned in the key of F#, which is usually used as a crossharp for music in C# or Db.
The Big River Harp MS harmonica F#
This harmonica in the key of F cross major is a real workhorse. It is very similar in design to Hohner's greatest ever success: the Marine Band. However, this Big River Harp features a plastic comb, which ensures that the harmonica remains intact over time. In fact, a plastic comb has the great advantage that it does not swell as moisture appears in the harmonica. Another difference are the stainless steel covers, which have been redesigned with an artful eye. They are hollow and have a ventilation slot. In addition, this harmonica has a brass tuning plate and 20 brass tongues. The harmonica has a length of 10.5 centimetres.
The Hohner MS series
As the largest harmonica manufacturer in the world, Hohner has a huge range. Yet it may be that your harmonica is just not among them. This may be because the design is not to your taste, for instance, or the sound does not meet your requirements. For professional harmonica players (or the do-it-yourselfers among us), Hohner has come up with the MS series. It consists of five models, all parts of which are compatible with each other. MS stands for 'Modular System'. This allows you to endlessly combine different parts to put together your own harmonica and create your own sound. The Big River Harp Fis is a reliable instrument that can also keep up well with music styles such as blues, rock, jazz, soul, country and folk during performances.
