Just like Maxon's loved OD-808, their OD9 (from the Nine series) offers a natural, mild overdrive to emulate the sound of a tube amplifier while retaining the actual guitar sound. This rather smooth distortion occurs as the distorted by the amplifier section of the pedal, rather than a separate circuit. The unique classic design (with JRC4558 IC chip) has been imitated by many manufacturers!
Not only does the Maxon OD-9 produce an amazing overdrive, it also offers an excellent clean amplification. You can give your guitar this boost by setting the drive knob of the engaged pedal to nil. What's more, the improved circuit is now quieter than ever! Turn the pedal off, and the True Bypass makes sure that the original guitar signal remains completely intact. This convincing overdrive pedal is also very ruggedly built!
Maxon started out as a manufacturer of guitar pickups, yet made their way to fame with high-quality innovative effect pedals. The company is responsible for the legendary TS-808 and TS9 Tube Screamers that were issued in the seventies under the Ibanez brand name. Today, Maxon specialises in vintage effects - including the highly coveted analogue delays and classic overdrives. Many professional guitarists use Maxon pedals.
