The scratch-ready RANE ONE DJ controller comes with all of the solid reliability and intuitive playing feel that we got with the RANE Seventy and Twelve. This controller offers a familiar and comfortable old-school set-up that's fully future-proofed and neatly packed up inside a nice-and-weighty steel chassis, providing any hard-working DJ with a durable and ultimately stable all-in-one professional performance tool.

An Intuitive Performer

The face of the RANE ONE has been mounted with a pair of 7-inch, vinyl-textured and motorised platters with adjustable torque so you can find that authentic, tactile feel that you'd get with a genuine set of traditional decks. The RANE ONE is, of course, a two-deck controller in its own right, providing eight multifunctional performance pads per side that can be assigned Hot Cues, Saved Loops, a Roll Sampler, Slicer, and full control over Serato Scratch Bank. Each deck also comes finished with six FX controls with aluminium rotary knobs, a dynamic three-band EQ section, and high and low pass filters for clean and clear sound with plenty of tweakable, creative range. All of this happens before we hit the professional-grade MAG FOUR crossfader and its uber-light touch, slick and gliding feel, and extensively customisable parameters via both hardware and software.

Professional-Level Connections

Up to two laptops can be hooked up to the RANE ONE via USB. Line inputs are also fitted for phono as well as line signals, so you could even link up a set of turntables - but note that, since this is a two-deck controller, you'd still have those two decks. Around the back, balanced XLR Main and Booth outputs and an extra RCA output can be found alongside two microphone inputs, amounting to a possible total of five audio sources for complex mixing. The RANE ONE DJ controller comes including an internal license for Serato DJ Pro and has been fully prepped to support Virtual DJ and Algoriddim DJ Pro AI.

RANE DJ ONE DJ Controller

Vanaf 1995 altijd met draaitafels gedraaid en de laatste jaren toch langzaam meer digitaal gegaan met Traktor scratch pro icm timecode vinyl. Lange verhaal kort: platen verkocht, draaitafels verkocht en toen ik deze controller zag was de keuze snel gemaakt. Het is bijna net als met draaitafels draaien, maar dan met een hoop functionaliteit erbij. De (scratch-) sample functie is super! Stems heb ik nog geen gebruik van gemaakt, dat gaat nog wel komen.

Alles aan deze controller voelt kwalitatief goed aan, alleen de channel faders gaan me iets te stroef, die gaan nog vervangen worden in de nabije toekomst. De specs om Serato (op hun website) te draaien zijn wel aan de forse kant, maar mijn Mid 2012 MacBook Pro met i7 Quadcore, 16GB RAM en SSD (Big Sur (OCLP)) draait Serato zonder problemen. Ik heb ook Algoriddim Djay Pro geprobeerd, superlichte en uitgebreide software en had er wel voor willen betalen alleen de functies van de HP cue en crossfader waren niet goed gepatcht, dus misschien later nog eens een kans geven.

De Lay out is krap, zeker als je 2 draaitafels en een mixer gewend bent zitten de knoppen/platters/faders snel in de weg. Na een paar keer gedraaid te hebben begint het te wennen, kwestie van muscle memory trainen. Het geluid van de unit is dik in orde. Ik heb eerder een Rane mixer gehad, dus op het gebied van geluid, faderopties en bouwkwaliteit had ik wel hoogstaande verwachtingen, deze zijn zeker ingelost.

Voor zij die vroeger met turntables gedraaid hebben.... Niet aarzelen, aankopen die handel en spelen en genieten! Heb lang vergeleken met Pioneer, maar heb toch voor de eenvoud en vooral voor de degelijkheid van Rane gekozen. Het toestel, tesamen met de Odyssey flighcase vallen daardoor wel wat zwaar uit, maar de uitvoering met de wieltjes lossen dit probleem op. Voordeel is, dat alles in je flightcase kan. Je hebt dus enkel dit te vervoeren....
