Just as there is hardware and 'in the box' software in the synthesiser market, the same is true in the lighting world. There are light jockeys who like to sit behind huge lighting consoles and have the whole show under their fingertips live. And there are light jockeys who prepare the whole show, at home, and don't really need such a huge console. Those who see more of the latter in themselves will work with products like the Visual Productions CueCore 2 DMX lighting controller. This is a system in which you 'upload' a complete lighting programme. The CueCore 2 then sends the programme out over its DMX ports.

Of course, the hands-on light jockey does have more flexibility, being able to adjust things live. But there are plenty of situations where that is not so necessary, such as symposia. For those fixed situations, a CueCore 2 is perfect. You record your show (the 'upload') via DMX, Art-Net, sACN or CueluxPro. On the spot, you play back your light show, without fuss, and without the risk of a crashing computer.
