General
With the Catalina Club series, Gretsch shows that traditional configurations and a classic sound go perfectly well with modern hardware. The basis is formed by shells made of 7 layers of mahogany, a type of wood with a warm sound. The CT1-J484 configuration is the most compact in the series and consists of an 18 x 14-inch bass drum (with riser), a 12 x 8-inch tom, a 14 x 14-inch floortom and a 14 x 5-inch snare drum. These sizes make this set not only ideal for jazz, but will also sound great in other styles of music. Moreover, this shellset is wonderfully compact, and therefore also handy for somewhat smaller gigs or rehearsals. This model is finished in Bronze Sparkle lacquer.
Excellent Resonance and Flexibility
To get the best out of the mahogany sound, the shells have a 30-degree bearing edge. This ensures good contact between the supplied Remo heads and the kettle. The Mini-GTS suspension allows the tom to resonate freely, which is also aided by the small tension blocks on all the kettles. Thanks to the ball joint in the tom holder, you can position the tom at any angle. By the way, it is a double tom holder, so you can easily use this spot to place an extra tom or cymbal arm (7/8-inch tube).
