For its 105th anniversary, Ludwig decided to try something new. Why not have drummers assemble their own drum kits? That way, a highly professional sounding drum kit could be sold at a much more acceptable price. This idea resulted in the Signet 105 series of shell sets, which are available in various configurations and finishes. The Ludwig LSS030XLA GigaBeat (Alpine Blue) is a 3-piece shell set with a blue finish. Its 20-inch bass drum, 12-inch tom and 14-inch floor tom feature warm-sounding 6-ply maple shells with an impressive satin gloss veneer.

Assembling the LSS030XLA

Assembling this shell set is an absolute breeze. Within 30 minutes, you'll have attached the lugs and mounting brackets to the tom and floor tom, and mounted the drumheads and hoops to the shells using the tension rods. You even get a drum key included with your purchase! When you're done, you'll have a kit made out of parts that are all made in Ludwig's factory in America - which says a great deal about the craftsmanship that went into making them! Even the high-quality Ludwig Weathermaster drumheads come from Ludwig's US facilities. Furthermore, the kit is also surprisingly lightweight, which is nice if you need to transport it.

Innovative shell sets

The Signet 105 is more than just a series of DIY drum kits, it's also full of innovative ideas. In trying to streamline the assembly process, Ludwig decided to fit the shells with screwless lugs, the Insta-Lite Snap-In lugs. Simply press them into the shell, after which the tension rods and hoops will help hold them firmly in place. Additionally, Ludwig fitted the tom and floor tom with Triad suspensions mounts (with memory locks) for optimal resonance, and designed several exotic finishes for the series.
