General

The Mapex Black Panther Velvetone drum set in Butter Burst is part of Mapex' Black Panther series of drum sets. Its unique sound is achieved by fusing three layers of wood (maple on the in and outside with a layer of walnut in between), and by ensuring that the shells have a direct and powerful sound with a lengthy sustain. Because the bearing edges are all the way on the outside of the shell, the drumheads can resonate freely.

Appearance

Looks aren't everything, but they are important nonetheless, and Mapex has paid plenty of attention to the appearance of this Velvetone kit. The result is a rugged Italian maple finish with a high-gloss lacquer that enhances the natural warmth and depth of the colours.

Pure class

Obviously, these fantastic shells do not come with stock heads. No, after elaborate testing the Remo Ambassador drumheads came out as clear winners. The overall judgement of the sound: heavenly. Because of this, the Mapex Black Panther Velvetone drum set can both whisper and roar. How's that for versatile?

Wrote the following about Mapex Black Panther Velvetone drumstel Butter Burst

This kit is absolutely amazing. It just sings. Every drum sounds perfect, exactly how it should. High tuning, low tuning, medium, it doesnt matter. Just wow. And the finish is crazy, it shines. It is a beautiful drum kit, all around. Heavy. It is a heavy kit. Shells are thick, and it shows it how sharp every stroke is, but it resonates beautifully. I go to studio in about a month with these babys and I could not be more confident in the sound.
