Mapex Saturn SR529XUFB Satin Black 4-Piece Shell Set

General

The Mapex Saturn SR529XU set includes four hybrid shells made up of multiple plies of walnut and maple. Next to two hanging toms, you're getting a floor tom and a kick drum. Since all of these Satin Black-finished shells are made using the same combination of wood types, the sound they shape is deep and tight. The configuration is pretty much as hybrid as the shell construction and falls in between a modern rock and fusion set-up: the 5.1mm thick toms measure 10 x 7", 12 x 8" and 12 x 14" and consist of six plies of wood, while the 8-ply bass drum measures 22 x 18" and is 7.5mm thick.

Since this shell set is a born all-rounder, it can be tuned and set up with matching drum heads for use in practically any style. Even more so because the shells are supported by what Mapex calls the SAS system, or SONIClear Attenuation System. SAS includes the hardware fitted to the shells that has been designed to make your entire kit 'work together' and produce optimal sound. As such, you'll find SONIClear bearing edges on the shells, special 90-degree floor tom legs and special rubber feet - all of which have been designed to leave resonance undisturbed and boost the overall sound.

Air Flow Ventilation

The Air Flow ventilation holes are also part of the SAS system. These are specially-placed holes per shell that allow for "chamber specific" air flow for the best possible feel and sound backed by every bit of resonance the shells create. In addition to the shells, the set also includes a number of accessories such as Remo drum heads, two chrome-plated TH800 tom holders and 2.3mm chrome Mapex Powerhoops.
