If you want a more-than-decent and dependable drum kit, this Mapex Saturn Series shell set might be exactly what you've been looking for. The 5-piece SR628X pack includes two hanging toms, two floor toms and a kick drum. The first hanging tom measures 10 x 8 inches while the second is a 12 x 9-inch model. The floor toms are 14 x 14 and 16 x 16 inch, and the bass drum is 22 x 18 inches. As you can tell, this is a typical modern rock configuration, but it can actually be used as an all-round set since the sound can be tuned to a more universal character.

The Mapex Saturn SR628XFB Satin Black shell set

The five shells in the SR628X set have a Satin Black finish and feature a hybrid construction made of two types of wood: maple and walnut. The toms are each made of six plies of wood for a total thickness of 5.1mm, while the 7.5mm thick bass drum consists of eight plies. Due to the extra deep design of the toms, and the floor toms in particular, you're treated to a fat, bombastic sound. Regardless of their above-average size, the toms in this shell set are easy to tune and prepare for various styles of music.

The SONIClear Attenuation System

The SONIClear Attenuation System, or SAS in short, includes the different hardware components fitted to or on the shells that work together to achieve optimum sound. Take for example the SONIClear bearing edges on all of the shells, the 90-degree angled floor tom legs, and the special rubber feet designed to maintain as much resonance as possible. But what also adds to the sound and feel of this Mapex Saturn shell set are the Air Flow ventilation holes. These have been incorporated into each shell at a specific place to pull optimal sound and feel from the entire kit. Made to preserve every last bit of resonance shaped by the shells, Mapex calls these "Chamber Specific" ventilation holes.
