General
Tama has over 40 years of experience building drum kits, which is obvious in this MA42ZS-CHS drum kit. This four-piece shell set is part of the Starclassic Maple series, which uses elements from Tama's Superstar and Imperialstar drum kits. It consists of a 22 x 18-inch virgin bass drum, 10 x 8 and 12 x 9-inch toms and a 16 x 14-inch floor tom in a stylish Champagne Sparkle finish with chrome hardware.
Thin shells
One of this shell set's more innovative features, is the fact that is uses such thin plies of wood for its shells. The toms and floor tom are made of 6 plies, and the bass drum is made of 8 plies, while they are just 5 and 6 mm thick, respectively. This leads to an optimal transferal of vibrations from the drumhead to the shells. By using the StarCast tom mounting system, which suspends the toms by their rims, Tama further optimised resonance, while the air-cushioned floor tom legs prevent the sound from disappearing into the ground.
Other hardware
The tom and floor tom hoops are made of die-cast zinc, which means they have no weak spots and produce clear, powerful rimshots. The wooden bass drum hoop is protected by the rubber-lined bass drum claw hooks. Furthermore, all the tension rods feature rubber Hold Tight washers that prevent them from coming loose. Finally, the toms and floor tom feature Tama's special Quick-Lock system, which makes setting up the drum kit a quick and easy affair.
