General
For the Starclassic Performer BB series, Tama has changed up their wood-selection process. After thirty years of experience with birch, they decided to combine it with bubinga. The toms and floor tom consist of four plies of birch and three plies of bubinga, while the bass drum uses an additional ply of birch. This unique combination of wood types, has resulted in a set of shells with unique tonal properties. The birch ensures a strong, aggressive attack and the bubinga provides nicely emphasised low frequencies. All shells have a gold/silver-coloured lacquer finish with the festive name of Champagne Sparkle.
Four-piece shell set
This shell set consists of a 22 x 18-inch bass drum, 10 x 8 and 12 x 9-inch toms and a 16 x 14-inch floor tom. The toms are mounted with the MTH1000 Swivel Wing tom holder, which allows you to rotate your toms in any way, thanks to the ball joint. Because the toms are suspended from the rims, the shells can resonate freely, and thanks to the Quick Lock mechanism, mounting them has never been quicker or easier. Furthermore, the floor tom legs feature the same Quick Lock system, while they're also equipped with special air chambers that prevent the vibrations from disappearing into the ground.
Hoops
The hoops of the toms and floor toms are die-cast, which means they don't have any structural weak points. This benefits the tension of the drumheads and, because of that, the sound of the drums. The bass drum has wooden hoops, which are held in place by claw hooks with rubber linings. This rubber lining prevents the hoops form being damaged and ensures that the claw hooks don't start rattling if you tune your drumhead quite loosely. Finally, all shells have chrome-plated hardware.
